Blog Post #1 on Topic Interests

One of the topics that I have an interest in, is the difference between an online publication of a book and the physical publication of a book. There are a few specific platforms that help authors self-publish, such as iBooks, Barnes and Noble Press, Kindle Direct Publishing, Wattpad, and more. With streaming services seeming to be more popular than movie theaters and popping in a DVD, researching about how this trend could be happening in the literature world, would be interesting. Following this kind of idea could bring a mixed method of research opportunities and could really show the advantages and disadvantages of self-publishing or having online-only copies of books.

Another topic that would be really interesting to study is the effectiveness of dating apps. A lot of qualitative, as well as quantitative research could help piece together what apps would be best to use, and if they should be used at all. Following this idea, would also incorporate many different dating apps and how each app is designed to run, as well as how the technology used would be making a difference.

  1. Hi Sydney!

I think both of your topic interests are really interesting! I hadn't thought of e-books as the equivalent to streaming services before. I think either topic you go with will be really intriguing. If you choose to pursue the dating app research will you be looking at the methods they use, the ratio of pictures to text, or what makes a good profile? Regardless, I'm eager to see where your project takes you!

  2. Hey Sydney,

As an avid booker reader, I LOVE this topic! I always have preferred hard copies of books, although electronic are much more accessible and often cheaper. I think the differences and similarities between the two mediums will make a great research paper and project.
Dating apps are also a very interesting topic for our generation. As far as researching it goes, what would you include in your study? Just how people feel about the app in general, or more technically speaking such as profile pictures, messaging services, and/or accessibility?

  3. Hi Sydney,

Both of these topics are very recent. There are issues on both topics, but depending on what angle you wish to cover, so far these topics are broad. S

Specifically in the dating app topic, I know there is a toxicity attached with dating apps as some are seen as just "hook-up" apps that don't see people going too far in a relationship.

Regardless of which topic you choose, I'm certain you'll find something that fits with you and intrigues you more.
