I have learned that in order to have sound research under your belt, you need to pick a knowledgeable topic that could still have room to grow. One of the more difficult parts of this process was trying to identify research gaps, so if you're able to think of a topic that comes with gaps included, that will be easier for you to build your own research off of. I also really liked doing the literature review because I've never fully so thoroughly examined my sources and seen how they would hinder or add to what I've written. This will be something I keep in mind when doing regular papers going forward.

These processes have helped me realize that in my future career and role, I need to be attentive to detail, and precise in the activities that I will be doing. If I had merely skimped over some of the details for certain aspects, I wouldn't be as prepared for the future assignments we had to do. I also learned ways that I could manage my time better in order to fully cover the assignment without burning myself out. I consider this super important since undertaking a research project requires a lot of time.

I'm thankful for all that this class has taught me, and I look forward to applying it. I also look forward to seeing how everyone's research turns out.

  1. Hey Sydney!

This all sounds excelent. It looks like you've learned a lot of really valuable things about your writing process, what you liked, what you thought was difficult, and what you can improve on. I think what you said about research gaps is particularly true. My whole project was basically one big research gap, so that wasn't very hard for me to determine, but I can totally see how it might be more difficult depending on the research topic. Great job this semester! I'm excited to hear about your final proposal!

  2. You are definitely right about choosing a topic that has not been highly researched. Having sound research comes from choosing a knowledgeable topic that can still grow. This would be the holy grail of topics. Burn out is real in this field and I am already feeling it if I am being honest. I am excited to see how your research turns out if you continue your research topic. Good luck!
